“The HDR-FX1000 is appealing to the amateur videographer shooting weddings or the aspiring cinematographer,” said Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics. “The combination of film-like movie quality and advanced color settings makes it possible for prosumers to achieve the deep cinematic look they crave at a reasonable price.”
24P means “24 frames per second, progressive.” Basically, it means that you should get a pretty smooth image. Frames per second represent the number of frames (i.e. the individual “pictures” that are played in sequence to create the video) that are shown in a single second. The higher the number, the smoother the video will appear.
The fact that it’s “progressive” means that the frames aren’t interlaced. Interlacing is a technology that makes it so each frame is essentially only half a frame — in one frame, every other line of the frame is skipped, and in the next frame, the other set of lines are skipped, creating the illusion of a solid image when the video is played. However, that tends to degrade image quality and produces additional distortion when you do something like take a screen capture. So progressive is good, because each frame is full. By the way, when shopping for a TV you may see terms like 720p and 1080i, the p and i refer to the same thing (the numbers don’t represent frames per second though, but instead the number of pixels on the display — the number of individual dots that make up the image).
The “tapeless recording capability through an optional CompactFlash™ adapter” bit means that you can record to a CompactFlash card, wihch is a basically a portable memory card. Some computers/laptops have CompactFlash card readers, which might make it a convenient way to transfer data quickly without having to mess with take.
I think most everything else is pretty self-explanatory.
EDIT: Oh, and the fact that the one camera supports “native” 24P means that the hardware naturally supports that format, so it doesn’t have to rely on external hardware or software to convert the video into 24P (such conversion may be a hassle, degrade performance, or introduce visual defects).
