What is the best camera/camcorder to film skateboarding (on a budget)?
It might be tough but I’ve got a budget of 250-450 US dollars and I need a good camera and or camcorder to capture or film skateboarding. Any camera with a great sports or motion setting and a good multi-shot would work and for camcorders, well the easiest one to record to computer that is high quality in the price range.
What format are you looking to film on?
I prefer DV as DVD recorders tend to jump around a lot, and the HDD ones I’ve used require lots of fiddling with filetypes and exporting etc.
You also see a few cameras marketed towards skateboarders that record straight to SD card, however these will never be a high standard recording.
You can pick up standard-def DV camcorders fairly cheap these days. I’m no expert on makes and models etc, but make sure it has a 3CCD chip and make sure you have some money left over for a fisheye lens. It makes all your footage look loads better.
Also consider capture equipment, for a DV cam you’ll need firewire cable and a firewire card for your PC if your motherboard doesn’t already have a socket for it, but those are relatively cheap!
Other than that, try ebay or the local classifieds and search for reviews on them online.
